Sadly, once again, Andre Dawson has been overlooked... (See post bel0w for first mention.) This time by an alleged expert in NYT, Dan Rosenheck link
talking about Undervalued and Overlooked for the Hall.... And there is no Andre. No. 25 on the all-time list of total bases.

If I had a vote, I'd vote for Dawson. But he would not be at the top of my list.

Sutter's election set a standard for relievers, and Gossage meets the standard. Interestingly, if you aggregate Gossage's and Sutter's career stats (era, ip, and SO) that consolidated fictitious player pitched almost 2000 fewer innings, struck out about 1300 fewer batters, and, when you take into account the differences between NL and AL, that player has essentially the same era as Blyleven! Blyleven's absence from the Hall s an embarrassment to the Baseball Writers and to the Hall.
The differences between Rice and Dawson are slight--Dawson had the longer career, Rice at his best was a slightly more potent offensive force, even after park effects are factored in.
A slight clarification concerning Rosenheck's original article is in order: Baseball Think Factory's hall of merit voted in Dawson in. Rosenheck is not the villian of the piece--the Hall of Fame voters are.
Obviously, Blyleven has made the hall of merit list, as has Gossage. Interestingly, Sutter has not. Nor has Rice. It appears that neither will.
Good for you for checking with original Hall of Merit -- I didn't think to do that...
